Optilast Eye Drops are a prescription-only treatment designed to relieve the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, a condition that causes red, itchy, and watery eyes. These symptoms are most often triggered by seasonal allergens such as pollen (hay fever) or year-round irritants like dust mites, animal dander, or mould. Suitable for adults and children over the age of four, Optilast provides rapid and sustained relief directly at the site of irritation.

How It Works
The active ingredient in Optilast is azelastine hydrochloride, a second-generation antihistamine with strong anti-allergic properties. When an allergen triggers a histamine response in the eyes, it leads to inflammation and the familiar allergic symptoms. Azelastine blocks histamine H1 receptors in the conjunctival tissue, effectively preventing the cascade of allergic reactions. Additionally, it exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, reducing redness and swelling. Its localised delivery ensures a rapid onset of action—often within minutes—while minimising systemic side effects.

Why Choose Optilast Eye Drops
Optilast is a go-to option for allergy sufferers seeking a fast-acting, effective eye treatment that targets the cause of symptoms without the drowsiness associated with some oral antihistamines. Its long duration of action, often lasting up to 12 hours per dose, means most users only need to apply it twice daily. This convenience supports adherence during peak allergy seasons. Optilast can also be used in conjunction with other allergy medications for comprehensive symptom control. The dropper bottle is easy to use and suitable for those with busy lifestyles or on-the-go relief needs.

Important Note
Optilast Eye Drops are for ophthalmic use only and should not be ingested. Contact lenses should be removed before application and not reinserted for at least 15 minutes. The bottle should be handled with clean hands, and the dropper tip must not touch any surface, including the eye, to avoid contamination. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider if symptoms worsen, if pain or vision changes occur, or if there are signs of infection. Always use within four weeks of opening the bottle to ensure sterility and effectiveness.

Are Optilast Eye Drops suitable for children?

They are generally suitable for children over 4 years old, but always follow the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Remove contact lenses before application. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

They contain azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine in the eyes, reducing allergic symptoms.

Apply one drop into each affected eye twice a day, or as directed by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Optilast Eye Drops are used to treat symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including itchy, red, and watery eyes, commonly triggered by hay fever or allergens.
